    Adam Riffer was called by death August 1, at the age of 75 years 8 months and 9 days. At the time of his death and for almost six years previously he resided with his son-in-law Mr. Ervin Hoffer.

    The late Adam Riffer was born in Kreis Alsfeld, Hessen, Germany on November 23, 1853 and as a youth immigrated to Canada settling in Waterloo County. He resided in Philipsburg, New Hamburg and finally located in Elmira where his wife predeceased him about six years ago. Two children also predeceased him. Two sons and two daughters survive; Norman of Kitchener; Edward of St. Catharines; Nora, (Mrs. Ervin Hoffer of Elmira) and Salome (Mrs. Garnegie) of Niagara Falls; also ten grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters.

    Mr. Riffer suffered a paralytic stroke several years ago and another a few days previous to his death. Mr. Riffer was beloved and respected by all who knew him. He was actively interested in church work and had served as a Sunday School worker some years ago.

    His funeral which was largely attended was held from his home to St. James's Lutheran Church where a service was conducted by Rev. S. J. Wittig of Conestogo, following which interment was made in St. James's Cemetery.

    The numerous floral tributes testified to the esteem in which he was held by the community and friends. The pallbearers were William Rahn, John Klinck, Henry Cress, Fred Hecktus, Albert Lorch, Fred Siegner.

    Adam Riffer Dead

    Death claimed another of Elmira's pioneers in the person of Adam Riffer, aged 75 years. who died on Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Hoffer. Born in Greis Seld, Hesson, Germany, the late Mr. Hoffer came to this country with his parents when only nine years of age. He has resided in Elmira during the past 45 years. He married Catherine Zimmerman, who predeceased him six years. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, E. J. Riffer, St. Catharines; Salome, (Mrs. H. M. Carnegie), Niagara Falls, N. Y.; Norman Riffer, Kitchener, and Eleanor, (Mrs. E. A. Hoffer), Elmira.

    Although the late Mr. Riffer had been ill for the passed several years. his death on Thursday was unexpected.

    the funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Hoffer, to St. James Lutheran Church for services, thence to the Elmira cemetery for burial. Rev. L. Kalbfleisch conducted the, services.
