    Notes:

Passing of Mr. Oliver Gray a Pioneer Laid to Rest

Again is The Enterprise called upon to chronicle the passing away of another pioneer of this section of Barnes County. All that was mortal of Mr. Oliver Gray, who homesteaded on government and more than forty years ago, was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery Wednesday afternoon, March 1st, 1922, attended by his surviving widow, two daughters and one son, and other relatives and friends. Owing to the inclement weather of the past two or three weeks, and the consequent blocking of the roads with drifted snow, the attendance was materially reduced in numbers, as many who would have lied to express their respect for the departed were unable to get out to the home, from which the services were conducted, by Rev. J. B. Burkhardt, pastor of the Congregational Church of Sanborn. The pallbearers were George H. Malosh, Charley Rebscher, C. L. Altenburg, Henry Barthel, Charles Lovell, and Bernt Nordley. A choir consisting Mrs. F. P. Clure, Mrs. George Moe, Mrs. C. Langer, and Mrs. T. J. Blewett furnished appropriate music. Considering the condition of the roads a large number of friends and neighbors gathered to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased. Oliver Gray was born December 16, 1847, near St. John, New Brunswick. When four years of age he moved with his parents to Ontario, Canada, where he lived until he came to Sanborn on April 16th, 1880. He filed on a homestead three and one half miles southwest of Sanborn, where he passed away February 27th, 1922. Deceased was married Nov. 9, 1892, to Mary Gladstone Scott. He leaves to mourn their loss his widow and three children, Mrs. Archie Miller, Mary and Oliver S., all of Sanborn. Mr. Gray, when a young man had one of his legs disabled in a threshing machine accident, and several years ago, as a result of that accident it was found necessary to amputate the limb, since which time he has been practically incapacitated from active work. The surviving members of the family have the sincere sympathy of the community.
