    WALLACE PIONEER PASSES AWAY

    The death occurred in Listowel on Friday, October 23rd, of Mr. John Wilken, a resident of Listowel and Wallace since 1874. The late Mr. Wilken was born in Mecklenburg Germany an June 6th, 1827, this being his 88th year. When a young man of twenty-five he came to Canada and took up his residence in Waterloo, where he lived for a time before moving to Wellesley. In the year 1874 he moved to a farm in Wallace, where he had lived until twelve years ago when he took up residence with his sons, John and Charles. In politics deceased was a Conservative and in religion a Lutheran. Shortly after he came to Canada he was united in Marriage with Miss Annie Ginka who predeceased him about twelve years ago. As the result of this union there were five children, of whom four are lest to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. The children are, Messers. Peter, of Yellow Grass Saskatchewan, John G. of Wallaceand Charles of Listowel and one daughter, Mrs. Michael Stover of Wallace. One son, Jacob, died in infancy. The funeral took place on Monday to Trecastle, where interment was made. Rev. Shorten conducted the services.

    The Wallace News

    The funeral of the late Mrs. Wilken took place on Tuesday at the Lutheran Cemetery, 8th concession, Wallace. Mrs. Wilken died in London on November 24th, but the funeral was delayed until Mr. Wilken returned from Yellow Grass, a station on the CPR west of Moose Jaw. He has the sympathy of his neighbours in this the greatest of all afflictions
