    David Reist, "the eighth member of John and Susannah (Huber) Reist's family, was born in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, January 21st, 1805. He came to Canada with his parents in 1826 and settled on the farm now possessed by Henry Stroh near Bridgeport, Ontario. Here they remained only one year, thence they moved on the farm now possessed by Joseph Reist. On January 10th, 1830, he was married to Mary, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Wanner) Mosser. She was born November 9th, 1812, and died near Kossuth, September 3rd, 1866. He is still living and enjoying good health for a man of such an age. He has his home with his son-in-law, Daniel S. Snyder, of Woolwich Township. Soon after their marriage they moved on the farm lately owned by Carl Zuber, near New Germany, Ontario. Here they resided until the year 1842, then they moved on a farm near Kossuth, now in possession of his son, Peter. Here they resided until her death in 1866. Since then he has had his home with his children. Their family consisted of eleven children"

    Death of Mrs Wideman

    Guelph Mercury :-The announcement of the death of Anna Sophia Traga, widow of the late Christopher Wideman was received with sorrow by relatives and friends on Saturday, Aug. 29th. She had been in poor health for about two months, when she was taken down with a paralytic stroke, from which time she gradually sank till death came. She was born Aug. 23rd, 1829, in Nienburg, Hanover, Germany. She emigrated to Canada with her husband in 1864, went to Kossuth, Waterloo township, but finally settled on a farm in Egremont, where she remained until her death. She leaves three sons and four daughters, all living on farms, except the oldest of the family, Capt, Wideman, of Guelph. The funeral took place on Monday, and was attended by a large number of sympathizing friends The youngest son, Andre with his sister, Dora, will remain on the old homestead.

    John Reist, "was born July 18th, 1763. On December 28th, 1790, he was married to Susannah Huber who was born May 21st, 1771, and died September 15th, 1850. In May, 1826, they with their large family moved to Canada and settled in Waterloo County, near the village of Bridgeport, on the farm now possessed by John Stroh. Here they resided for nearly one year when they purchased the farm now possessed by his grandson Isaac Reist, near Kossuth, Ontario, where he died December 2nd, 1843. To them were born twelve children, all of whom settled in this county save Abraham who remained in Penn Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where his descendants still reside."

In 1824 they moved to Canada and settled on a farm adjoining that of David Pannebecker's near Hespeler where she died November 22nd, 1858, and he died (The house on the old "Mosser Farm" was accidentally destroyed by fire and he was burnt with the house) July 28th, 1872. To them was born a family of eight children"

    Sad Affair near Hespeler
    From our own Correspondent

    A most melancholy event took place on Sunday morning near the R.R. track about 1-1/2 miles above Hespeler. An old man said to be about 86 years of age of the name of Musser, occupied two apartments by himself, contiguous to the farm house in which his daughter, son-in-law and family resided. It was customary for some of the family before retiring for the night to visit the old man's rooms. On looking in on Sunday night at bedtime, he was found asleep and left undisturbed. About 2 o'clock on Sunday morning the family was aroused by the scream of one of the children who had been awaked by the suffocating influence of smoke in the house. They had barely time to make their escape from the house before it was enveloped in flames, and without securing even sufficient clothing. The rooms occupied by the old man were already burnt down, and on Dr. Swan, being called, all that could be found of the old man were a few charred bones, which were collected into a box of about a foot square. The fire is supposed to have been entirely accidental, but how it originated cannot be ascertained. Dr. Swan supposes from the remains of the old man being found near the door of the apartment in which he slept, that he had been suffocated and fallen down in an attempt to gain the door. An inquest was held on Monday when a verdict in accordance with the above facts were returned.
