    Death of David R. Strome

    We regret to have to chronicle the death of David R. Strome, which sad event occurred on Thursday afternoon of last week.

    Deceased was born in Blenheim township in 1834, and was married in 1856 to Martha Sophia Schader, who died on the 4th of February last year. To Mr. and Mrs. Strome were born nine children, seven of whom survive, namely: Mrs. J. C. Amy, Elmira; Norman, Hamilton; Mrs. E. Stickney, Peel Township; Noah on the old homestead in Pilkington Township; Urias, Winnipeg, Man.; Simon, Cayuga, Ont. Besides these, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild survive, together with six brothers, three in the Northwest, two in Berlin and one near Floradale, and one sister in Waterloo.

    The family lived in Woolwich and Elmira for a few years, then for about 26 years they lived in Pilkington, where their son Noah, now resides.

    Twelve years ago Mr. and Mrs. Strome retired from the farm and became residents of Elmira. Mr. Strome who was of a quiet retiring disposition was highly respected and was a consistent member of the Evangelical Association about 40 years.

    Notes:

    After a lingering illness of six or seven months duration caused by an aggravated stomach trouble, there died, at Elmira, last Monday, Martha Sophia, beloved wife of Mr. David R. Strome, aged 70 years, 6 months and 28 days.

    The Maiden name of Deceased was Martha Sophia Schrader. She was born in Prussia, Germany on July 8th, 1836, emigrated with her parents to Canada when but six months of age and settled in the village of Doon, Ontario, where she lived until she was married to Mr. David R. Strome, who survives her, and whose home was then at Blenheim. The marriage took place on January 15th 1856. The union therefor extended a little more than one year over the half century and was blessed with eight children, two of whom have predeceased their mother. The remaining ones are Mrs. J. C. Amy, of Elmira, Norman of Hamilton, Mr. E. Stickney, of Peel Township, Alexander also of Peel, Norah of Pilkington Township, Urias of Humbold,, Saskatoon and Simon of Cayuga Ont. These together with a father who still enjoys fair health eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, the great majority of whom were in attendance at the sickbed of the deceased, remain to mourn the of a loss of kind mother and helpmate. Deceased was a member of the local Evangelical congregation, the pastor of which will preach the funeral sermon, after the interment which will take place at the Elmira Union Cemetery, today (Thursday February 7th)

    John Strome, "the youngest and only son of Christian and Mary (Rutt) Strome, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, February 12th, 1810. On March 31st, 1831, he was married to Nancy, the youngest daughter of Jacob and Polly (Detweiler) Rosenberger. She was born May 7th, 1812. After their marriage they resided on the old "Strome Homestead," near Fisher's Mills, where he died August 19th, 1865. Old Mrs. John Strome is still living and quite smart for a woman of so great an age. At present she has her home with her son, Abram. Their family consisted of twelve children"

    Died at Berlin, July 13th, at the residence of her son, Mr. Abram R. Strome, Mrs. John R Strome, aged 91 years, 3 months. Of a family of twelve children, the following survive: - Henry R. and Abram R. of Berlin; David of Elmira; Aaron of Floradale; Isaiah of Brandon, Man.; Amos of Minnesota; Elijah of California, and Mrs. Geo. Diebel of Waterloo. The deceased was a member of the Evangelical church. The funeral takes place to-day (Thursday) at 1 p.m., from the residence of Abram R. Strome, corner Weber and Cedar streets, to Roseville cemetery.

    DEATH OF Mrs. J. H. STROME.

    The death of Mrs. J.R. Strome, (Nancy Rosenburger) took place on Monday afternoon, at the home of her son, Abram R., corner of Weber and Cedar streets, at the advanced age of 91 years. She has been for about twelve years living in Berlin. Her husband predeceased her over a quarter of a century ago. Of a family of twelve children the following survive - Henry H. and Abram R. of Berlin; David of Elmira, Aaron of Floradale; Isaiah of Brandon, Manitoba; Amos of Minnesota; Elijah of California, and Mrs. Geo. Diebel of Waterloo. The deceased was a member of the Evangelical Church. The funeral will take place on Thursday at 1 p. m. from the residence of Mr. Abram H. Strome, corner of Weber and Cedar streets, to Roseville cemetery.

    On her tombstone her name is given as Mills, this is because she raised her grandchildren whose surname was Mills.
