    Was a Pioneer - The late Julius Oscar Brueckner was born on Oct. 7th, in Grossenheine, Saxony, and was the third child of his parents, Carl Gottlob Brueckner and Auguste Henriette, nee Liersch. He visited the city school at Grossenheine and when he reached his 10th year he entered the High School at Freiburgm under the instruction of his uncle, Mr. Passler. In his 14th year he learned the general store and dry goods business. In 1853, the 12th of September, he emigrated to Canada, and on Nov. 17th came to his uncle, Mr. Henry Liersch, at Wilmot Centre. In the year 1860, the 26th Feb., he married Miss Louisa Gungel of Hamilton. This union was blessed with two daughters, Ida, who Feb. 8th, 1861, and Emma, Mrs. Jacob S. Wahl, of St. Agatha In 1863 he was appointed teacher at St. Agatha, S. S. No. 15, through the late trustees Messrs. Henry Wahl, and Nickolaus E. Lichti. - In 1865, on the 30th Dec, his first wife died at St. Agatha On Feb. 21, 1869, he married a second time to Miss Marla Bauer of Petersburg, Rev. Mr. Schmidt of Hamilton officiating. This union was blessed with seven children, namely: William of Baden, Oscar of Stratford, Robert of Winnipeg, Latonia (Mrs. Hy. Niergarth) of Calgary, Alta., Louisa (Mrs. Jno. Issler) of New Hamburg, Peter of London and Carl Gottlob, who died on Sept. 2nd, 1883. His second wife died on March, 31, 1883. On July 31st, 1888, he married Miss Anna Hohmeier, of Breslau, Rev. Mr. Spring officiating. In the years 1870- 71 he lived in Hamilton for the benefit of his second wife's health. In the fall of 1871 he was again engaged as teacher of S. S. No. 15, St. Agatha, and taught till 1887. In 1888 he was engaged by the trustees of Baden S. S. No. 13, and taught, till 1896 when he received his first pension from the Ontario Government. About two years ago, he complained of pains and the doctor after examination pronounced the trouble inflammation of the bladder, from which he suffered severe pains until his death. On Sunday, July 27th, of his three sons, William, Oscar and Peter, had him removed to the Berlin-Waterloo hospital, after he had consented to an operation. On Monday, July 29, he was operated upon and stood the operation well, but owing to old age and weak heart he died on Monday, the same day at 5 o'clock. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, seven children and 20 grand children, also two sisters, Latonia and Hemlena of Germany. On Thursday, July 31st, on the day of his funeral, he would have celebrated the 25th anniversary of his wedding. May he rest in peace. Mr. Brueckner was correspondent for the following papers for at least 20 years of more, the Waterloo Chronicle, Berliner Journal, New Hamburg Volksblatt, and Waterloo Bauernfreund.
