    Notes:

Thomas Little was born in Locherbie, Scotland on August 17, 1840 the son of Gabriel Little and Rebecca Saunders. He came to Galt in July 1847 and in 1856 began to serve an apprenticeship with John Barbour, a local cabinet maker. He left Mr. Barbour's employ in August 1868 to start his own furniture and undertaking business. He operated the business until 1880 when he went into partnership with the Guggisberg Brothers in a business known as Guggisberg Bros. and Co. He remained in the partnership until the fall of 1886 when he moved to Chicago. Returning to Galt in 1889, he revived his old business, later known as T. Little & Sons, and was joined in the operation of the business by his two sons William Little and James Little. When William died in 1902, the business continued as T. Little & Son. Mr. Little died on December 16, 1921 and is buried in Mount View Cemetery.

    Veteran Furniture Dealer Passes

Another of our veteran furniture dealers has passed away. This time it is Thomas Little of Galt, Ont., who died at his residence on December 16 [1921], aged 82 years. Although he had been in failing health for some time, he was able to be about until within a few days of his death. Mr. Little was born in Lockerbie, Scotland, August 12, 1840 and came to Galt in July, 1847. With the exception of two years spent in Chicago, he has been a resident of Galt, ever since, a period of about 72 years. He started to learn his trade of cabinet-maker with the late John Barbour in 1856, and he commenced business on his own account on Ainslie street in 1868 and continued there for one year when he removed to the present place of business at 20-22 Ainslie street. He carried on business there until 1880, when he went into partnership with Guggisberg Bros. under the name of Guggisberg Bros, and Co., occupying the store now conducted by R. A. Briscoe, which he maintained to the fall of 1886. At this time he left Galt for Chicago, returning in October 1889 and reopened his business in the old Buchanan block on Main street and was there until 1893, moving from that store to the present place of business, in which he has successfully carried on ever since. Mr. Little served his fellow citizens as an alderman in the years 1897-98. He was a member of the old volunteer fire brigade in the early days and remembered when the biggest part of the south side of Main street was burned down. He was a member of Central church. In his younger days he took a great interest in sports, particularly in baseball and cricket, which were hobbies with him. He was a great book lover and had a remarkable memory for poems, which he would occasionally recite to his friends. He was a man of quiet disposition, simple habits and sterling integrity, respected by all who knew him. He was particularly fond of checkers and could be seen almost any day in the summer under a tree on Harris street playing a game with his old friend, the late James McDougall. He was a member of the Sons of Scotland and the Chosen Friends and is survived by one son, G. J. Little, and two grand-children Bryce and Ruth Little. One sister also survives, Mrs. David Boomer, of Preston. The funeral took place from his residence, 11 Cameron street, to Mount View Cemetery.
