    MR. MRS. MARRIOTT, MR., MRS. HARVEY MARRIED IN 1891

    Two well known Hespeler couples mark the 52nd anniversary of their marriages today. Mr. and Mrs. William J. Marriott, Bechtel street, and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Harvey, Walker street, were wed on Dec. 30, 1891, the former couple at Guelph and the latter, in Newfoundland.

    WED IN NEWFOUNDLAND

    Both Mr. and Mrs. Harvey, who have been residents of Hespeler for nearly a quarter of a century were born in Newfoundland. On Dec. 30, 1891, the ceremony was solemnized at St. George's, Newfoundland, when Miss Susannah McFatridge became the bride of Benjamin Harvey. Rev. Mr. Newman, minister of the Methodist church, officiated. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Harvey continued to reside in Newfoundland for some years, coming to Hespeler in 1919 and they have made their home here since that time. Mr. Harvey is employed at the Dominion Woolens and Worsteds plant.

    MARRIED AT GUELPH

    It was on Dec. 30, 1891, that a marriage was solemnized at the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Lister at Guelph when their daughter, Frances, became the bride of William J. Marriott, Rev. Mr. Dalley pastor of the Baptist congregation, performed the ceremony. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Marriott spent a few years in the United States and, on returning to Canada, they were at Puslinch lake where Mr. Marriott conducted the Lakeview hotel. Some years later they moved to Bradford for a time and, returning to this district, conducted the Puslinch lake hotel for a few years again before moving to Hespeler where they have resided for the past 17 years. Mrs. Marriott was born at Des Moines, Iowa, and came to Canada with her parents who made their home at Guelph, where she resided until the time of her marriage. She is a member of the United church and takes an active interest in the work of the women's organizations of that congregation. She is also interested in community affairs and is a member of Iris Rebekah lodge, the Women's Institute, the Red Cross branch and the District Nursing association.

    Serves the Community

    Mr. Marriott was born at Guelph, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Marriott. Since making his home in town he has been interested in civic affairs and served for six years as a member of the municipal council and is now a member of the board of parks management. He is also interested in sports and is a devotee of both rod and gun. His interest extends to competitive games and he has served on the executive committees of baseball, hockey and lacrosse clubs in the town. In the latter sphere he has taken a particular interest in the national sport and served for a time as a member of the O.L.A. executive committee, acting as vice-president of the association for one term. Mr. Marriott is a member of Hespeler lodge, I.O.O.F. and is a past noble grand of that order. His hobby is gardening and he is an active member of the Horticultural society
