    Notes:

    D. Y. Ray, prominent businessman of Galt for many years, died at his home, 225 Water street north, last night following seven months' illness. Mr. Ray had lived in Galt since he was four years of age, coming here 68 years go with his parents, James G. and Isabella Ray, from Whitevale, Ont., where he was born. As a young man, Mr. Ray learned the grocery business and operated his own store for a number of years. He then formed a partnership with William Allan [sic] and, under the name of Allan and Ray, they carried on a furniture and undertaking business here for 16 years. After selling this business, Mr. Ray was proprietor of a grocery business on Water street north until ill health forced him to retire a few months ago. The deceased was an active member of South Water Street Baptist church, and was on the board of managers and trustees, and church treasurer for many years. He had also served as an alderman of this city and was past president of the Galt Businessmen's association. Twice married, Mr. Ray was predeceased by his first wife, Lily Morrish, in 1909, and by his second wife, the former Mary Abra, in 1944. Surviving are one daughter, Helen, of London; one son, Harold, of Galt; three brothers, V. A. Ray, Salford, J. A. and L. M. Ray, both of Galt; also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Parker, Galt, and Mrs. E. W. Johnson, Beaverton, and five grandchildren. One daughter Claudia, Mrs. A. E. Hunt, predeceased him in 1940. The late Mr. Ray is resting at the residence, 225 Water Street north, until Wednesday morning. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock in the T. Little and Son Ltd., funeral home. Interment will be in Mount View cemetery.
