Fatal Accident

A most distressing and fatal accident happened to a young lad, Albert Edward Copeman, working for Mr. Kenneth McDonald, near Branchton, on Sabbath morning last. Young Copeman had gone out to the stable to attend to the horses, and after being absent for some time, staggered or crawled back to the house, evidently badly injured from some cause. Medical aid was hastily summoned and after being made as comfortable as possible, the lad was brought up to his parents' residence in Galt, but he never rallied, although able to walk about a little, and died on Monday night. From the poor lad himself but little information could be obtained as to how he met with his injuries. At first it was supposed that he had been kicked by the horse to which he was attending, but subsequent examination led to the belief that by some means he had fallen, and that the horse alarmed by his fall, had stepped on him. There were evidences of injury on the right side of his bowels and a post-mortem showed that whether stepped on or kicked the pressure had been so great that one of the small bowels was ruptured for several inches, allowing the contents to escape into the cavity, showing that from the time of the injury, nothing but a fatal result could ensue. The poor young fellow was buried at St. George cemetery on Tuesday.
