    Edwin Z. Kemkes Passes

    The death occurred in Brantford General Hospital on Thursday of Edwin Z. Kemkes, RR 1, Branchton, in his 88rd year. He had been ill for a lengthy period. He was born in Hanover in 1877, a son of the late Herman and Magdalene Kemkes, and had farmed In the Branchton area for the past 61 years. Mr. Kemkes was a man of considerable administrative ability which he applied to municipal legislation. He served six years on North Dumfries Council, two terms as reeve. He was also township assessor for a number of years. Mr. ltemkes was one of the early members of the North Dumfries Plowmen's Association and in recognition of his service was made an honorary life member some years ago. He was associated with the COF for many years. His affiliation with Branchton United Church extended over six decades. He was a valued elder and for 40 years superintendent of the Sunday School. in 1907 he married Jessie M. Wallace, who predeceased him. Surviving are one son, William W., and one daughter (Ruth) Mrs. Stuart Studiman, both of Branch-ton; three sisters, Mrs. M. E. Brown of Biggar, Sask., Mrs. J. Bradshaw of Harris, Sask., and Mrs. Don McLeod of Vancouver, B.C. Six grandchildren, Jean, Jessie, David and Eleanor Kemkes and Bruce and Sandra Studiman, also survive. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Victor Wilkinson of Branchton at Little's Funeral Home, Galt, on Saturday. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: William Turnbull, Russell Henderson, Wilfred Gardiner, Kenneth Harmer, John Welsh and Alan Thaler.
