KOCH, Linda J. (Goebel, Gerhardt) - Linda passed away at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, on Saturday, May 5, 2007. Predeceased by her first husband, Chris Gerhardt and second husband, Phares Koch. Predeceased by her brothers, Louis (Marg), Philip (Mary), George; sisters, Dolly (Bill Hogg), Elsie (August Henke) and sister-in-law, Lou (Albert). Survived by her brother, Albert (Lorraine) and sister-in-law, Mary. Linda is also survived by her son, Syd Gerhardt, his wife Cyndy and their children Travis and Jenna and daughter, Lana Jenks and her children Steve, his wife Melanie and daughter Marissa and Dana and her fiancé Jay Behich. Step-children, Dale Koch and Ethel Young also predeceased Linda. Surviving are step-children, Larry Koch (Marlene), Gloria Mitchell (Bill), Carolynn Cooke (Doug) and Dennis Koch. There are many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and step-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of 5C for their care during her six week stay. Dr. Dawson, Dr. Wren and staff, Marijana, Bev, Stacy, Nancy, Richard, Cheryl, Joan, Deb, Liza, Melissa and Steve. Linda and her family moved to Kitchener in 1949 from Neudorf, Sask. She worked at General Springs for nineteen years as a machine operator. After retiring from GSP, she and Phares were involved in rental housing for many years. Mom enjoyed the painting, sanding and refinishing floors and general sprucing up that were part of the rehabilitation of many of these rental units. She also enjoyed travelling. Her passport shows trips to Iceland, England, Germany for family reunions and a very special Holy Land tour with Phares and Bruce and Betty Seebach. She also regularly visited with family across Canada. She was active in many of the groups at Calvary Memorial United, especially Sunday School and the 55 Plus Group. Her life was one of constantly helping others and volunteering. She started her last major volunteer stint in 1982 at the then KW Hospital. She was honored for her years of service at a Hospital Auxiliaries Associations of Ontario gala banquet in 2005, at the Fairmont Royal York, where she received a Provincial Life membership with a certificate and pin. In her lifelong tradition of giving, and putting others first, she has bequeathed her body to science, in the hope that someday, someone will benefit from the knowledge that still lies hidden within her. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Memorial United Church on May 17 at 1 p.m. with visitation at 12: 30 and an informal lunch after the service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Calvary Memorial Church or Grand River Hospital would be appreciated.
