Loved mother gone to her last reward.

Monday, February 4th, marked the passing of Mrs. Anna Wood, an early settler of the Grand Traverse region.

Anna Seegmiller Wood was born June 20, 1853, in Petersburg, Waterloo County, Canada, a daughter of Fred and Katherine Seegmiller one of a family of seven. She is survived by her brother George, living in her childhood home.

On December 31st, 1872, she was married to John Wood also of Canada. Twelve children came to this home, one died in infancy, two in early youth and nine survive. They are: Alex Wood of Detroit; Charles, John, Wellington, Mrs. R. A. Wilson, Mrs Frank Clark of Kingsley and Mrs Frank Hennrick and Mrs Myron Cunningham of Traverse City and Mrs O. M. Tompkings(sp) of Old Mission, Mich. There are nineteen grandchildren.

The family came to Michigan in 1892 and took up a farm southeast of Kingsley where Mrs. Wood resided until the death of her husband, John Wood, Sr., January 2, 1918. Since that time her home has been with her children and four years of residence in Old Mission made for her many friends who will always remember her kind, undemonstrative manner in doing for those she loved.

Death came quietly after a month's illness at her home on the farm of R. A. Wilson, four miles east and a mile south of Kingsley, watched over by the sons and daughters for whom she had lived her life.

In early childhood, Mrs. Wood was confirmed in the Lutheran church of her people and throughout life adhered to this faith. For many years she was affiliated with the Summit City Grange and held the office of chaplain of this organization.

Mrs. Wood was a woman of sterling character, gentle and home loving. She had often been heard to remark: "If it is God's Will then we must abide by it." And now may we say of her in passing, "She hath done what she could."
