Arthur Gardener

PRESTON - Arthur Gardener, 778 Walter St., died today at South Waterloo Hospital, Galt. He was 83. Mr. Gardener was born in Lancaster, England. He came to Canada 68 years ago and to Preston in 1912. He retired from the Grand River Railway in 1948. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, a veteran of the First World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Hilda Garrett; one daughter, Mrs. Sheila Richard of Galt and one sister, Mrs. Milton Pfeiffer of Preston, and two grandchildren. The body is at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends, Tuesday, afternoon and evening. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Preston, Park Lawn cemetery.

Of the Hilltop Manor, formerly of Walter Street, Cambndge (P), at the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, August 16, 1978, in her 85th year, Hilda Garrett, beloved wife of the late Arthur Gardner. Dear mother of Shiela (Mrs. James Gayfer) of Petawawa. Also survived by one brother, two sisters and two grandchildren. Mrs. Gardner was born in London, England and had been a resident of Cambridge, since 1922. A member of St. John's Anglican Church. Friends will be received at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge (P), Thursday evening, Friday afternoon and evening. Private family funeral service, will be conducted Saturday, at 11 a.m. Interment Parklawn cemetery
