    At St. Raphael's Nursing Home, Kitchener, on Monday, November 4, 1974, after a lengthy illness, A. Vera Rosenberger, a resident of St. Raphael's Nursing Home for the past two years and formerly of Hespeler. Born in Wilmot Township, a daughter of the late Menno Rosenberger and the former Lucinda Stauffer. Miss Rosenberger was a member of the Womens Missionary Church. A graduate of the Stratford Teacher's College, she was a Public School teacher, for 47 years and taught in the Hespeler Public School from 1921, until her retirement, in 1961. A memember of the Missionary Society of the church and the Superanuated Teacher's Association of Ontario. Surviving are two brothers, Leighton and Stuart of New Dundee and a sister Hilda (Mrs. Elgin Reist) of New Dundee. She was predeceased by two brothers, Lorne and Delton. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener, until noon on Thursday, when removal will be made to Bethel Missionary Church, New Dundee, for the service at 3 p.m. Interment Union Cemetery, New Dundee.

    Rosenberger. - In Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., on March 16, 1906, of pneumonia, Bro. Benjamin S. Rosenberger. He was born July 1, 1838, and was thus aged 67 y., 8 m., 15 d. His wife preceded him about eight years. He leaves a family of five sons and five daughters to mourn their loss. He was buried in the Blenheim Mennonite cemetery on the 19th. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. N. Stauffer in English, from Rom. 14:7,8, and Bro. S. Gehman in German from Rom. 8:17, before a large audience.

    Rosenberger - Bro. Benjamin S. Rosenberger of Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., of pneumonia, after an illness of a little over a week. He was born July 1, 1838, and died March 16, 1906; aged 67 Y., 8 M., 15 D. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the Blenheim Mennonite M. H. on the 19th. Bro. N. Stauffer preached from Rom. 14:7, 8, in the English language, and Bro. S. Gehman in German from Rom, 8:17. D. B.

    On the 1st of March, 1898, in Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ontario, of pneumonia, Sister Nancy, beloved wife of Bro. Benjamin S. Rosenberger. She was born on October 11th, 1839, and was a daughter of the late Bishop Henry Shantz. She leaves a sorrowing husband, and five sons and five daughters to mourn their loss, though not as those who have no hope. She was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years, and led a consistent Christian life. Buried in the Blenheim Mennonite cemetery on March 3rd where Menno Cressman preached in German from Rev. 14: 13, and Noah Stauffer in English from Prov. 12: 28, to a large congregation. Her end was peace.

    Henry Shantz, "the second youngest son of Christian and Hannah (Paul) Shantz, was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, November 3rd, 1804. In 1810 he came to Canada with his parents and spent his boyhood days on his father's farm on the west side of the Grand River at the Toll Bridge (Freeport). On September 23rd, 1828, he was married to Lydia, daughter of Peter and Anna (Zimmerman) Martin. She was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, August 2nd, 1810, and came to Canada when nine years old (1819). In 1829 they moved to North Dumfries Township, about two miles south of Roseville, where they resided until his death which took place October 4th, 1877. He was a minister of the Mennonite Church for a number of years and later on he was ordained bishop which position he filled with honor unto his end. He had a family of ten children"

    Roseville Mennonite Church (Detweiler Meeting House)

    Services began in homes in the area with the arrival of the first settlers around 1822. A first meeting house was built about 1830 approximately a half-mile west of Roseville, on the south side of the road. One acre of land on the northeast corner of Lot 37, Concession 11, North Dumfries Township, was transferred from Samuel C. Snyder. The deed for the property was dated 1830, but it was not registered until August 1842. A stone meeting house was built in 1855 just slightly east of the old log meeting house; the church was dedicated on November 25, 1855 by the congregation's first minister, Jacob F. Detweiler. Henry Shantz, Enoch Detweiler and Solomon Gehman were the ministers who followed Jacob F. Detweiler.

    Sunday School began in 1924 and in 1933 Young People's Bible Meetings were organized. The latter meetings were held in conjunction with those of the Blenheim Mennonite Church. A Sunday School classroom was added to the Detweiler church in 1956.

    Moses Bowman, a layman from First Mennonite Church in Kitchener, was ordained minister to Detweiler Mennonite Church in 1938 where he continued to serve until the time of his death in 1964. The small congregation was served by visiting ministers until it disbanded in January 1966. Some of the remaining families are reported to have joined with Blenheim Mennonite Church at that time.
