    Wilhelmina Stoltz

    The death occurred on Sunday in Waterloo Township of Mrs. Wilhelmina Stoltz, widow of the late Alexander Stoltz. She had resided in the township for many years. Surviving. her are one daughter and two sons, Irene and Lloyd at home and Dr. C. Stoltz of Kitchener. Her husband predeceased her. The funeral will be held on Friday to St. James Lutheran Church, Mannheim, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    The Late August Stoltz. - The late Mr. August Stoltz of near Mannheim whose death occurred March 22nd, He was a native of Germany, being born in the year 1830. When a child of 4 years he emigrated with parents to Canada, the voyage in the sailing vessel occupying a period of 73 days. The late Mr. Stoltz may be classed among the pioneers of Waterloo Co. being one who took an active part in the early period of his life in clearing the forest, necessary for the early settler in order to establish farm home. In 1855 he was married to Elizabeth Fried who predeceased him nearly 9 years ago. The family consisted of 5 sons and 4 daughters: Jacob F. deceased, Alfred and Alexander of Waterloo Tp., Rev. A. F. Stoltz of New Dundee, Edward on the homestead near Mannheim, Mrs. C. Hahn of linwood, Mrs. C. Win hold of Tavistock, Mrs. Wm. Lautenslager of Petersburg and Mrs. Adam Becker of Berlin.

    He is also survived by 1 brother, Jacob Stoltz Sr., of New Dundee and 2 sisters, Mrs. Jacob Doering of Berlin and Mrs. Henry Becker of Mann heim. He lived on the farm for 58 years being successful in his occupation and having attained the ripe old age of 82 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He was a faithful and consistant member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral which was held on March 25th, was conducted by Rev. Mr. Brenner of Baden, who hased his remarks on Psalm 91-16.

    On Monday, the wife of August Stoltz, of Mannheim, died here at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Adam Becker. She suffered from a nasty ulcer and had been living in Berlin for several months. She leaves eight grown children: Alfred and Mrs. Adam Becker in Berlin; Alexander and Edward in Mannheim, Reverend August F., a missionary in Africa; Mrs. Conrad Hahn in Linwood; Mrs. C. Winhold in Tavistock; and Mrs. W. Lautenschläger in Petersburg. In addition, two brothers still live, respectively, in Parkhill and Blenheim. Burial takes place today, Thursday, in Mannheim. The "Journal" expresses its sympathy to her husband and other remaining survivors.

    DEATH OF AN AGED RESIDENT

    Philip Becker Passed Away on Wednesday In His 79th Year.

    An aged and respected resident of Berlin passed away on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 in the person of Philip Becker, who died at his residen 167 Weber street.

    The deceased who was in his 79th year was born in Germany, and came to Canada with his parents when but a mere lad. The family settled in Wilmot Township near Mannheim, and here the late Mr. Becker resided until about ten years ago when he retired from farming and took up residence in Berlin. He was widely known throughout the county and his death will be sincerely regretted by a large number of friends and acquaintances.

    He is survived by a wife and two daughters. Mrs. Ezra Devitt,Guernsey. Sask.. and Mrs. Alex. Stultz, Waterloo Tp.

    The deceased was a member of St. Peter's Lutneran Church. The funeral will not take place until Monday next in order that Mrs. Devitt may arrive from the West. Service will be held at the family residence 67 Weber Street. at 2 o'clock and afterward at St. Peters Church. Interment will be East End Lutheran Cemetery.

    Samuel Fried, "a native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was born August 5th, 1804. In March, 1825, he, in company with Abraham Moyer, travelled on foot to Canada and arrived in Waterloo County, Ontario, after a thirteen days' walk. Mr. Fried was married to Nancy, daughter of Dilman and Catharine (Schwartz) Ziegler. She was born February 1st, 1810, and died October 14th, 1872. Soon after their marriage they settled in Blenheim Township, Oxford County, about two miles west of Roseville where they resided until their deaths. He died November 3rd, 1876. To them was born a family of seven children"
