    Notes:

Joseph Kieffer Hale and hearty at Age of 92

The old adage "early to bed and early to rise," has an enthusiastic advocate in 92 year old Joseph Kieffer, 210 Lancaster street East. Attributing his longevity and good health to the strict observance of this rule, together with lots of hard work, he happily passed this advice along in an interview today.

    Splendid Appetite

A hardy individual, Mr. Kieffer eats as hearty a meal as anyone. A meal isn't complete unless it has plenty of meat and vegetables. No bread and milk diet for him.

Most astounding, however, to his niece, Mrs. Mary Seifreid, with whom he makes his home, and to the entire neighborhood, is his practice of arising early every morning and walking over 10 blocks to St. Mary's church for early mass. He only misses when the streets are slippery.

Each morning shortly before 7 o'clock he slips out of the house and slowly makes his way to the church. In the afternoon, if the weather is fine, he often takes walks to visit friends.

    Enjoyed Reading

Until a year ago he read newspapers avidly and kept pace with world news. However, during the last few months his eyes have become too poor for reading.

The son of the late Joseph Kieffer and Maria Magdalena Stutter he was born in Pilkington Township and came to Kitchener some 60 years ago.

He is the last surviving member of a family of nine. All his brothers died before they reached their late 70's.

Mr. Kieffer himself only retired from working at the age of 73.
