    The petition of Sarah Ziegler, Widow, of the late Jacob Ziegler of the Township of Waterloo, the County of Halton in the District of Gore, Yeoman, deceased. Humbly Swearth That you petitioner being now left a widow with an only child named Aaron Ziegler an infant under the age of four years and your petitioner for want of the English Language is not capable of managing her affairs and those of her said infant son. Your Petitioner therefore humbly request that your honour will be pleased to appoint George Clemens of Waterloo aforesaid, Gentleman, to be Guardian for my said infant son to manage his affairs and to do all other acts and things according to the statute in such case made and providing - and your petitioner as is duty bound will ever pray.

When a young man he came to Canada and settled near Doon, Waterloo County, where he was married to Barbara (No. 5388), daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Biehn) Rosenberger. She was born near Preston, Ontario, January 29th, 1804, and died January 30th, 1885. He died December 7th, 1857. To them were born eleven children"

    Historic Building:
    This large, two storey fieldstone farmhouse was built by Daniel Rudy in 1847. The builder carved his name and the date of construction on one half of a grindstone and embedded it in the second storey front wall to the right of the door. Like many early mennonite houses it is built in the plain Georgian style and faces south.
    The house retains many of its early features. Some of the original small-paned twelve-over-eight windows remain. A number of other windows are six-over-six panes. It also has small attic windows as well as a bell in a cupola which was rung to call the men in from the fields. In the 1870's, a brick doddy house was added (for the parents when the son took over the farm), the porch, the two-over-two paned windowsand the board and batten summer kitchen may also have been added at this time. Colourful granite stones with large corner blocks give the house a pleasant patchwork-quilt appearance. Custom was to plaster the stone work under the front verandah.
    All facades of this historical "rural" Waterloo home were recognized in the designation of the structure as a Heritage Landmark.1a

    This property was auctioned off by the sheriff 19 Dec 1837 to the highest bidder who was Dr. William Craigie for ten pounds. By that time Dilman was living in Hamilton, Ontario.

    Henry M. Clemmer, "son of Abraham, was born in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in April, 1783, and died August 13th, 1866. In 1806 he was married to Sarah Bergey who was born in March, 1786, and died April 7th, 1867. They, in company with others, moved to Canada and arrived at old Christian Shantz's, one mile south-east of Berlin, in May, 1822. During the summer he purchased from H. Lamb, a farm situated near Preston. On this place he resided until 1837 when he made a deal with Christian Erb, exchanging this place for one of over two hundred acres, situated two miles north of the town of Waterloo. Here they resided until their deaths. They had a family of eight children, all of which were born in Franconia Township except John, the youngest, who was born in Canada."
