    The Late Robert Orr

Mr. Robert Orr died in Waterloo Township, on Thursday last, at the age of 68 years. He was born at Kirkhope, Selkirkshire, Scotland, in the year 1825. He came to Canada, in 1850. He married in Scotland two years before he came. When he arrived he took up his temporary abode with his brother Andrew, near Galt, staying with him two weeks. Then he went to Doon and engaged himself to Mr. Robert Ferrie as foreman. Mr. Ferrie at the time had a large establishment consisting of a large farm, a flour mill, a distillery, a store and a post office and was twenty years in his employ. There-after he rented Mr. Ferrie's farm till he got Mr. Bowman's and twelve years ago last March, came up to his own farm on the Huron Road, a farm originally owned by the Ferguson estate. He was a member of the Doon Presbyterian church, from its organization forty years ago and all through its history took a deep and living interest in its affairs; contributing liberally to its funds, attending regularly on its services and in every way seek its prosperity. Within a year, the congregation being desirous of adding to the eldership, chose him to act in this capacity. He was through life a staunch Reformer, never casting a vote save for that side in politics. He was a useful man in his community and highly respected by all who knew him. Be was ill but two short days, when he was called away on Thursday, the 16th dying in the faith in which he had lived, trusting in Jesus Christ as his atoning sacrifice. He leaves behind him to mourn his loss a wife, the partner of over forty years and eight children. George and Robert in California, Mary and John in Iowa, William and Lydia at home and Janet and Andrew married near home respectively to John Amos and Miss B. Lockie These have the sympathy of the entire community. The Doon congregation will miss him much and his loss will be deeply felt in the neighborhood with which he has been so long identified. A large body of his old friends and acquaintances followed his remains to their last resting place at Doon. Services were held at the house and the grave by the Revs. T. H. Thomas, B.A., and Dr. Dickson of Galt.
