- JOHN OLIVER
The members and adherants of the Central Presbyterian church, will miss from among them the familiar face of Mr. John Oliver, who for the past 12 years has been caretaker of the church. Mr. Oliver had been ailing for a year or more but about a week ago was taken suddenly worse and removed to the hospital from his home at the Queen hotel and on Sunday last his death was announced from the pulpits of the Central and Knox churches. The news of his unexpected demise was received by those who knew him with genuine regret. Mr. Oliver was horn in Crailing, Roxburghshire, about 70 years ago and served an apprenticeship as millwright in Kailwaterfoot. He came to the United States soon after completing his service and afterwards taught school in the northern part of Ontario for several years. He was a gentleman of sterling character and great intelligence, while his Christian life was above reproach. Mr. Oliver was a widower, his only relative in Canada being Mr. Jas. Scott, Bond street, from whose residence the funeral took place on Monday last, at 2.30 p.m.
