- James George Stevens of 29 Roslin Ave., Waterloo, died today at K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 82. Born in Chelsea, England, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Stevens Sr., he came to Canada at the age of seven and lived in the K-W area for 58 years. He was a blacksmith apprentice in Gorrie at 16, then came to Waterloo in 1911, where he was employed by Waterloo Manufacturing Ltd. for 45 years. He retired in 1962. He was a member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. Besides his wife, the former Magdalena Lichty, whom he married in 1912, survivors include three sons, George of Kitchener, Albert of Wellesley and Donald of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Kathleen) Hamilton of Conestogo; four brothers, Joseph of Chelsea, England, Edward, George and Harry, all U.S. residents; and one sister, Annie Stevens of Chelsea, England; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Removal will be made at noon Saturday to the Stirling Avenue Church where service will be conducted by Rev. James R. Reusser at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Waterloo. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Women's Missionary Association of the church as expressions of sympathy.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Stirling Mennonite Church for James G. Stevens, who died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. Predeceasing him, besides his parents, were two sons, Lorne in 1950 and Harold in 1944 while serving overseas during the Second World War.
