  UNEXPECTEDLY CALLED AWAY - The many friends of Mr. William Hancock received a sad shock in the news of his death, which took place early in the morning of Tuesday last. Although ailing for some three weeks it was fully believed that the crisis had been passed and that he was on the road to recovery. But it was not so ordained. In the full bloom of his early manhood he has been cut off and his cheery smile and pleasant greeting will be no more seen and heard on our streets. Mr. Hancock came when quite a lad, in 1875 with the family from Beverly to Galt, since which time he has been well known to the younger generation of Galtonians, with whom he had attended school and grown up to fill what it was hoped would be a long, and what gave every promise of being a useful, career. After working in several subordinate positions he commenced business for himself, two years ago, in company with Patrick Radigan, Jr., and by his sterling integrity and assiduity was laying the basis of a successful business career. In 1883 he was married to Maggie, daughter of Mr. Thos. Uren, by whom he has three children, ranging from five years to nine months. Mr. Hancock was a member of the Freemasons, A.O.F., and of the Royal Areanum, the latter being a co-operative benefit society in which he is insured for $3,000. The two latter societies attended in a body at the funeral, which took place on Thursday from his residence on Beverly Street to Mount View Cemetery. Galt Reporter Oct 12 1888 pg 1
