Notes |
- Madison/ Seattle: Joyce Coppel, age 91, of Madison and more recently Seattle, passed away peacefully on Friday March 24, 2017 in Seattle. She was born on August 7, 1925 in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, the daughter of Harry and Frances (Bloom) Vineberg. She married Dr. Harry C. Coppel on September 3, 1950 in Hamilton, Ontario.
In 1950, while working as an office manager for a scrap dealer in Hamilton, our Mother agreed to a blind date with Harry, a young man from the small town of Galt, Ontario. This already accomplished scientist with a PhD in Entomology turned out to be the love of her life and on their 3rd date, he proposed. Later that year they married and moved to Belleville, Ontario.
In 1957, Joyce and Harry left Canada with their 2 children, when Harry accepted a job at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They adapted to their new life in the USA and cultivated a circle of friends who were like family to them. Joyce was involved in volunteer activities, many associated with Temple Beth El Sisterhood and the Collector's Corner thrift shop. She was politically active as a Democrat and a feminist. Joyce was a member of the Wisconsin Women's Political Caucus, NOW and the Lysistrata Cooperative.
Joyce and Harry were happily married for 60 years before Harry died in 2010. Our Mother loved her children very much and was very proud of who they became and what they accomplished. We will miss her beautiful smile and spirit every day.
She is survived by her son, Dr. David B. Coppel (Renee); daughter, Ann G. Coppel; grandchildren Erica Coppel (Harry) and Adam Coppel; great-grandson, Odin Asher; and numerous nieces and nephews
Joyce is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry and her parents.
Funeral services will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, 1 Speedway Road, Madison on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1pm. Please meet at the front entrance of the cemetery.
Joyce's favorite quote was from Micah 6: 8 "Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God"
