  OBITUARY - On Friday morning last Mr. Arthur Burnett, who has resided in town for the past few years, died from a cancerous affection, aged 83 years. Deceased came to Canada from the Vale of Ettrick in 1831, and on arriving in this neighborhood, took up land on the St. George Road, near Branchton; with characteristic industry making his property lone of the finest in this section. Mr. Burnett was a well-informed, highly conscientious man, and steadily occupied responsible positions in the Church to which he belonged. In private life he was very much respected, his sincerity of character retaining a friendship once made. He was twice married, the first time to Miss Margarete Laing, sister of Mrs. James Cowan, of Clochmhor, Waterloo, and the second time to Helen Turnbull, widow of Mr. James Thomson. His family, many of whom yet reside in this section, consists of six sons and four daughters, all now living with the exception of one daughter. The funeral on Saturday afternoon was very largely attended by residents of the town and the many friends of the deceased gentleman from the country. Galt Reporter Aug 12 1881 pg 1
