Notes |
- A short life but one well lived Kayla Blair of Waterloo
Kayla Blair came into this world unexpectedly and with a force that would drive her for the next 21 years, a force that kept her alive as a severely premature baby and throughout the two years of fighting a rare cancer known as soft tissue sarcoma....And in the end, when she knew the cancer treatments were no longer working, Kayla's only thought was for her family, the emotional suffering of her parents and younger brother Aaron....As much as she loved dance, Kayla eventually chose another career path as a police officer, and was in her first year of the police foundations program at Conestoga College when illness interrupted all her goals.
After several misdiagnoses and a suggestion she might have an ulcer, a specialist finally discovered a tumour in her intestines which was preventing food from entering her stomach causing constant vomiting. What followed would be nearly two years of surgeries, chemotherapy sessions, hair loss, biopsies, scans, hospitalizations and eventually the knowledge that she wasn't going to survive this disease....Kayla's time working with the youth fit well with her passion to stand up for underdogs. In May, she was part of the 2012 International Day Against Homophobia, held at St. Mary's High School.
