Notes |
- George McLean started here in Glick's block in 1880 and later moved to the present Ada Shepherd location until 1894 when Crystal M. Schultz, one of his apprentices, bought him out. Schultz carried on till he was appointed Post Master. Chris. Schultz was left-handed and for a time after he came, the kids used to stand around in front of his window watching the left-handed shoemaker. It was quite a sight for them. I have spoken about the fancy shoes Bergey made for young ladies and so to give our ladies a break I will tell you what Schultz told me. At some period when he was making shoes, and the young fellows would get a new suit, the thing was for them to have Chris. make them a pair of dress shoes with the tops made of the same cloth as their suits, instead of leather.
