    • Sudden Death of a Young Lady

It is our sad duty this week to record the sudden death, on Sunday afternoon last, of a most estimable young lady of this town - Miss Elizabeth, second daughter of Mr. Thomas McGill, of Forbes street. It appears that since about the commencement of the year up to a short time ago, Miss McGill had been a severe sufferer from rheumatism, but that of late she seemed to have entirely shaken off the disease. On Sunday she took dinner with the family in the best of spirits, and after the meal was over repaired to the parlor, where she sat reading. A young friend coming into the room some conversation passed between them, after which he sat down to the organ and ran his fingers over the keys. While so engaged, he noticed Miss McGill's head suddenly drop, and if he had not caught her she would have fallen to the floor. Thinking that it was merely a faint, prompt measures to afford her relief were taken; but a few gasps were all the signs of life she gave, and in a moment or two these ceased and her pure young spirit took its flight to Him who gave it. The grief of the family in the presence of such a bereavement as this is sacred; but such alleviation as can be obtained from the knowledge that they have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends is theirs. Miss McGill was 21 years of age at the time of her death.
