  An Atrocious Brute. Galt, Ontario, March 21.\emdash John Getty, of this town, was tarred and feathered and ridden on a rail for alleged cruelty to his wife during her confinement, shortly after which she died. Getty was subsequently arrested on a warrant charging him with the murder of his wife, and is now in jail. San Luis Obispo Tribune (Weekly), Volume XIV, Number 34, 23 March 1883 ___________ John Getty, aged 66 years, passed away very suddenly Sunday morning, June 27, at his home, 1003 Seventeenth Street. Mr. Getty had been a resident of South Bellingham for the past thirty-one years. At the time of his death, Mr. Getty was a member of Fairhaven Lodge No. 36, A.O.U.W., South Bellingham, and the local Bricklayers' Union No. 9.
