  John R. Blake born in Elora the son of George Blake and Mary Robinson. Came to Galt in Decm 1873 with his family and was educated in local public schools and at the Galt Collegiate Institute, then graduating from the University of Toronto in 1889. Studied law at Osgoode College graduating in 1892 then returning to Galt. In 1899 appointed magistrate for Galt, in 1922 was appointed magistrate for Preston & the County of Waterloo. Also served as a magistrate for Brant County. Retired in 1942. Also served as Galt Police Commission chairman and a director of the Gore Mutual Fire Insurance co.
