  • Notes
    • It is our sad duty today to chronicle the death of our young and respected townsman, Mr. George Murphy. As our readers are aware, Mr. Murphy some months ago, being in indifferent health, started from Galt for the purpose of taking a nest with his parents at Seaforth; but upon arriving at Guelph, accompanied by Mr. Jas. McTague, it became evident that he was not in a fit state to continue the journey, and he was conveyed to St. Joseph's Hospital in that city. Although at times becoming so much improved that his early removal from the hospital to his home was confidently expected, this improvement never continued long enough to enable the expectation to become a reality. Only on Wednesday of last week he was taken out for a drive; but on Thursday he suffered another relapse, and on Friday morning he sank quietly to his eternal rest.

Mr. Murphy had been for many years a resident of Galt, and we know we speak the universal sentiment when we say that no young man was ever more respected. Energetic and active in business matters - kind and courteous to all with whom he was brought in contact - he occupied a high position in the esteem of the community, and his early demise is sincerely regretted. The cause of his death appears to have been a complication arising from disease of both heart and kidneys, and from the first left little more than a hope that he might be able to shake off the attack. Mr. Murphy was in his 31st year at the time of his death. His funeral took place in Guelph on Sunday afternoon last, and we take the following reference thereto from the Guelph Herald.
