Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Buchanan received about 100 friends Thursday afternoon in their home, 468 Front street, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. The decorations were in white and gold, the effects being carried out in ribbons and flowers, The guests were received at the door and ushered to the cloak room by four little grand-children of the aged bride and groom - Miss Maggie Watrous, Miss Bertha Buchanan, Miss Leona Buchanan and Clifford Buchanan. Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan were assisted by their daughters, Mrs. Wheeler Hull of Lowell, Mrs. J. L. Bucbanan and Mrs. A. W. Buchanan.

In the dining room, where refreshments were served, the table was prettily decorated with daffodils and wirite carnations, yellow ribbons being attached to the table corners and passing to the chandeliers. The guests were served by four grandsons, Messrs. Harry Watrous, Floyd J. Buchanan, Carlton J. Buchanan and Bertram A. Buchanan. Violin and piano music were enjoyed during the receiving hours, and a number of gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan in honor of the happy occasion.

      __________

August Buchanan, 76 years of age, was seriously injured at the crossing Eleventh street and the G.R.&I. tracks yesterday while assisting his men to unload logs from a flat car that were consigned to the Veneer works.

Mr. Buchanan had the contract for the conveyance of the logs to the yards of the works and often took hold with his helpers in the heavy, dangerous work.

Yesterday he was holding the lower log of the carload with a cant hook when the top timber got away. Mr. Buchanan started to run clear of danger but was tripped by a skid.

He made a desperate effort to crawl out of the path of the rolling logs but was caught by the foremost which passed completely over his body, the second rolled on to his left foot and stopped. He was taken to his home, No. 486 North Front street in the ambulance and Dr. McColl attended him and found two ribs fractured. There were no other broken bones, the only drawback that may hinder his recovery being the liability of internal injuries developing. The log was a 156-foot hard cedar timber and his escape from instant death is pronounced miraculous.
