    • Death in Clifford: John R. Scott, clerk of Clifford, passed away in Toronto on Thursday, May 12, after a short illness. The late Mr. Scott was 61 (sic) years old, and was born in Hawkesville, Waterloo County, the second son of the late John and Pauline Scott and came to Clifford 48 years ago. He was employed with his father, proprietor of the woolen mill, and later took up the business of conveyance, notary public and village clerk, having held the latter office for seven years. He took an active part in the life of the Knox United Church, formerly Presbyterian, for the past 30 years being in office. He belonged to the Clifford I.O.O.F Lodge. About 34 years ago he married Mary Stevenson of Listowel, who with one daughter, Miss Ethelwyn, B.A., of Hamilton, survives. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Thos Bridge, Batavia, N.Y., two brothers, George of Clifford and Harvey, Toronto. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon with interment in Clifford Cemetery.
