- Charles J. Trapp St. Jacobs Merchant Passes Suddenly
Ill for Three Years His Passing Was Very Sudden and Unexpected; Operated General Store
St. Jacobs and Elmira were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of one of St. Jacobs most prominent citizens and business men early Monday morning, July 3rd, when Charles J. Trapp passed away suddenly. Although his health had not been good for three years his unexpected passing came as a surprise to his friends and business associates.
For the past twenty years, the late C. J. Trapp operated a successful grocery store and later a general store in St. Jacobs. It was just ten years ago he build a new building and branched out into general merchandise. The business enjoyed a wide patronage and served a large section of the immediate district.
The late Mr. Trapp was keenly interested in his community, taking an active part in its betterment and advancement. He belonged to Calvary Evangelical Church and was a faithful member. His chief interest possibly was in the public school system and before his illness sports among the young people were a hobby of his.
The late C. J. Trapp was born and educated in Pembroke, Ont. In early life he served his apprenticeship as a druggist and later was a commercial traveler for fifteen years serving firms in London and Hamilton.
Those left to mourn their loss are his wife, the former Louise Dreisinger; one daughter, Esther, at home, and one brother, Robert; three sisters, Mrs. L. A. Weber, Edmonton; Mrs. H. Braendle, New York, and Miss Evelyn Trapp, Toronto.
Funeral services were held from Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel, Elmira, on Wednesday morning, thence to St. Jacobs Evangelical Church, with burial in Elmira Cemetery.
