    Honoured plaque 
    • A triple-plaque unveiling was held at Valour Place, Cambridge Armoury, on May 7. The Ontario Heritage Foundation erected a plaque in honor of Sgt . Frederick Hobson, VC (1873-1917). The WHS supported the family's request for this plaque. Otherplaques honor Lieut. Samuel Honey,VC, DCM, MM; and Capt . George F.Kerr, VC, MC, and Bar, MM. They were also honored with OHF plaques in thecounties in which they were born. These men were living in Galt when they enlisted.

    • CAPT. GEORGE FRASER KERR, MC, VC 1894-1929

      Born in Desoronto, Ontario on June 8, 1894, George Kerr attended the Galt Collegiate Institute from 1908 to 1913. In 1914 he joined the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) and arrived in France in 1915. He won the Military Medal at Mont Sorrel in June 1916 and was sent back to England to recover from his wounds He was appointed Lieutenant and returned to his unit in July 1917. He was awarded a Military Cross at Amiens in August 1918 and a second Military Cross at Bourlon Wood on September 27, 1918. Still not fully recovered from earlier wounds Captain Kerr won the Victoria Cross at Bourlon Wood when he rushed a stronghold and single-handedly captured four machine guns and thirty one prisoners. Following the war, Captain Kerr continued with Militia services in addition to his business career in Toronto. He died in Toronto on December 8, 1929 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. He is remembered locally with a plaque situated in Valour Place at the Cambridge Armoury.
