- Kennel, John K., son of Joseph and Rosina (Kipfer) Kennel, was born in Perth Co., Ont., Nov. 24, 1872; died at the Milford (Nebr.) Rest Home, Jan. 21, 1960; aged 87 y. 1 m. 27 d. He lived near Shickley, Nebr., since 1904 until five years before his death, when he went to the Milford Rest Home. On Nov. 11, 1896, he was married to Katie Lichti at Longmont, Colo., by Joseph Schlegel. They had one daughter (Rosa Meta--Mrs. William Saltzman, Limon, Colo.). His wife died on March 5, 1911. On Feb. 2, 1915, he was married to Mary Lichti at Shickley by Peter Kennel, Sr. They had 3 children (John Christian, who died in infancy; Donald, Pocatello, Idaho; and Beatrice--Mrs. Sam Gross, Shickley, Nebr.). He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church.

John K. Kennel Dies at Milford, Burial at Salem
John K. Kennel, former Shickley resident, passed away at the Milford Rest Home, where he had made his home the last five years, Thursday afternoon, January 21. He had been in ill health for some time. The week before Christmas ne had entered Seward hospital. He was released about two weeks ago and was thought making satisfactory recovery.
John K. Kennel was born in Perth County, Ontario, Canada, November 24, 1872. passed away at the Milford Rest Home January 21, 1960, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 27 days. Death was due a heart attack and infirmities old age.
When a young man John moved to Colorado and in 1904 to Shickley, Neb., which community was his home for the remainder of his life except the last five years, which were spent at the Milford Rest Home.
March 21, 1880, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized received into the Mennonite church. He remained a faithful member unto the end. He served the church in various positions of responsibility throughout his life time.
November 11, 1896, he was united in marriage to Katie Lichti at Longmont, Col., by Joseph Schlegel. This union was blessed with one daughter, Rosa Meta.
His wife Katie passed away March 5, 1911.
February 2, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mary Lichti by Peter Kennel Sr. This union was blessed with three children, John Christain, who died in infancy, Donald and Beatrice. His wife Mary passed away September 11, 1938. He was the last member of his brothers and sisters to depart from this world.
Left to mourn his departure are Lone son, Donald, of Pocatello, Ida no, and two daughters, Rosa (Mrs. William Saltzman of Limon, Col.) and Beatrice (Mrs. Sam Gross of Shickley), 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, January 24, at the Salem Mennonite Church near Shickley with Bishop Peter Kennel, Minister Fred Reeb and Deacon Lee Schlegel in charge. A quartet composed of Glen Roth, Henry Lauber, Wayne Kempf and Dean Kuhns sang four numbers, "In My Father's House Are Many Sweet Bye and Mansions,", "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," "Beyond the Sunset and "We'll Never Say Goodbye." Pall-bearers were Louis Lichti, Alvin Lichti, Reuben Lichti, Nick Lichti, Wayne Kennel and Aal Schlegel. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
