- Albert Strange Dies At Hamburg Prominent Business Man and Member of Village Council
IN 48th YEAR
(By Chronicle Correspondent) NEW HAMBURG. - The sudden demise of Albert Edwin Strange on Friday afternoon was a distinct shock to his host of friends in New Hamburg. He had been confined to the house for several weeks following a heart seizure in Toronto. Deceased was born in England 471 years ago, the son of Rev. and Mrs. Abraham Strange. He came to Canada from Lincolnshire in 1923 to reside in St. Thomas.
Five years ago he came to New Hamburg and opened the first 5c to $1.00 store. Later he sold to Harry Borth and opened the Bargain Store with dry goods. This he also sold several months ago to John Fischer.
Three years ago he was a successful candidate for municipal honors and at the time of his death was a member of the New Hamburg village council.
Mr. Strange was married in St. Thomas in 1929, Mrs. Strange and daughter, Mary Elizabeth, four years of age, survive.
The funeral service was held from his late residence to St. George's Anglican Church, New Hamburg, on Monday afternoon, thence to St. Thomas. Mr. Strange was for many years soloist in St. George's.
