Notes |
- KIRKPATRICK, James Ralph Hilborn, DSC, CD, LLB, BScMII, Captain (ret'd) RCNR - At St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on the 5th day of April 1997, at the age of 80. Graduate of Royal Military College and Osgoode Hall. Judge of the Ontario Provincial Court (Criminal Division and Juvenile and Family Divisions) from 1960 to 1991. Concurrently a member of the Kitchener, Waterloo, Galt, Preston and Hespeler Police Commissions and of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Board for forty-two years in all. A member and thereafter Chairman of the Ontario Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation in the 1960's and 1970's. Served in the RCNVR pre-war and post-war and on active duty from 1939 to 1945 in Royal Navy MTB Flotillas and from 1943 as senior officer of the 65th Canadian Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla.
I give thanks to God for the love and companionship of my wife, Winnifred [sic: should read Winifred] (Burston) for 54 years and pray that God will re-unite us in life hereafter. I leave two wonderful sisters, Mary (Mrs. Eric Webster) of Dollard des Ormeaux and Janet (Mrs. Douglas H. Cross) of Ponte Claire [sic: should read Pointe Claire], Que. I am grateful for the fellowship of brother judges, for the friendship of the Court Staff, of Police Service Board Members, of Regional police personnel, of fellow members of the Kitchener Rotary Club, Westmount Golf Club, Caledon Ski Club, the Hillsboro Club, Florida, for the comradship of my college classmates, active service shipmates and K-W Naval Veterans and for the fellowship of the congregation of St. John's Anglican Church. The naming of the J.R.H. Kirkpatrick building was the greatest honour (and surprise) of my life.
I have requested a private family service at the crematorium and that a memorial service be held at St. John's at a later date. Throughout my life, I have been a miserable failure as a fund raiser. If you wish to make a memorial (or farewell) donation to the K-W Rotary Charitable Foundation, 500 Hallmark Drive, Waterloo, Ont. N2K 3P5, St. John's Group Kitchen, 58 Queen St. S., Kitchener, Ont. N2G 1V6, the Ontario Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation, 75 King St. S., Suite 622, Waterloo, Ont. N2J 1P2 or our local hospitals, it may shorten my stay in purgatory. Farewell. Arrangements entrusted to Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home (519) 742-4481.
