• Notes

  BOULLEE, WILHELM HENRICH was first mentioned in the census of 1851, stating that he was born in Germany, and was 29 years of age. Although the Ontario Medical Register of 1870 lists him as being Certified by the Eclectic Medical Board in 1869, there is no mention of his medical activities. It was as publisher and editor of Der Hamburger Neutrale that he was best known. He was outstanding in an era of outspoken and ferocious editorial assaults on opponents, being constantly involved in acrimonious feuds. His newspaper days lasted from 1855 to 1858, so he must have conducted a practice as well. At one time he was reeve of the Village of New Hamburg. In 1878 after he had been absent in the United States for a few weeks, his creditor seized and sold his assets. He did return however, and when he died on February 5, 1882, he was described as an old and respected citizen. From: Doctors in Waterloo County 1852-1925 by Alexander D. Campbell
