TRANSLATION OF ETIENNE SCHAMBER AND CATHARINE ZINK'S
      MARRIAGE
Parish of Kirrberg, District of Saverne, November 28, 1848, at 9 a.m.
Marriage certificate of Etienne Schamber, 29, born at Kirrberg, January 11, 1819, shoemaker, resident of Kirrberg.
Son ( legitimate, and of age ) of Etienne Schamber, Sr., 69, laborer, resident of Kirrberg, present and consenting. And of Madeleine Allimang, 56, resident of Kirrberg, present and consenting.
And of Catharine Zink, 21, born at Kirrberg, July 29, 1827, resident of Kirrberg, daughter ( legitimate and of age ) of Francois Zink, 48, retailer of used goods, resident of Kirrberg, present and consenting, and of Catherine Bertschy, 48, resident of Kirrberg, present and consenting.
As required by the register of this parish, the banns were published at Kirrberg on Sundays November 12 and 19, 1848, without opposition to this marriage.
The couple having been born in this parish, the groom on January 11, 1819, and the bride on July 29, 1827, as is recorded above, and which was verified by the couple, their witnesses and those in attendance, they were not required to produce their birth certificates.
These certificates, and all requirements of the Civil Code, and of Chapter 6, Title 5, Book 1 of said code, were read by the official of the civil state, as required by law.
The here-named couple declared themselves to one another in marriage: one, Catherine Zink, the other Etienne Schamber, in the presence of the following 4 witnesses:
      1. Henri Zink, weaver, 50, paternal uncle of the bride
      2. Abraham Barg, laborer, 60, paternal uncle of the bride
      3. Jacques Schamber, son of Etienne Schamber, Sr., day-laborer, 35, brother of the groom
      4. Henri Toussaint, tailor, 39, first cousin of the groom by marriage
These 4 witnesses are residents of this parish, and were chosen by the couple. This marriage was publicly celebrated.
After which, I, George Stroh, Mayor, representing the state, pronounced the couple united in marriage in the eyes of the law.
Having been read, this certificate was signed by the couple, the witnesses and those attending, as well as myself as Officer of the State, except for Madelaine Allimang and Catherine Bertschy, mothers of the couple, who declared themselves unable to sign. Translated by Diane Leonard
