      Echoes of the Past

"The North Waterloo Teachers Association held its third quarterly meeting in the Waterloo Village. J.S. King the President, occupied the chair. About 40 teachers were present. Among those were I. Moran, New Hamburg; T. Snyder, Wellesley; Mr. George, Berlin; Messrs Blackwood and Schmidt, Waterloo."
-Woolwich Historical Foundation, Woolwich Township at the Turn of the Century (2001), p. 22, transcribed from the Elmira Anzeiger of May or June 1870
(must be John Moran, attested as a teacher at Philipsburg in 1867 (Berliner Journal 8 Aug.) and as a teacher living in Wilmot Twp in the 1871 census. Possibly a transcription error, since "I" and "J" are almost identical in the "Fraktur" font used by German newspapers.)
