- SHALLOW LAKE MRS. CHARLES WINKLER PASSED AWAY THURSDAY
Mrs. Chas. Winkler, who was taken suddenly ill, Saturday evening last with a paralytic stroke, passed away Thursday morning, having lain in a semi-conscious state since the seizure. The late Mrs. Winkler was born at Waterloo in the year 1851 her maiden name being Mary Jane Tyler. In the year 1872 she was united in marriage to Wm. Girling, who passed away in October of 1899. After their marriage, they took up residence at Elmira and later at Southampton and 30 years ago moved to Shallow Lake when the village was in its infancy. She was one of the best known and highly respected residents of this community, was an industrious woman and always met difficulties with a smile. She married Charles Winkler who survives with a family of five sons; Wesley, Owen, Emerson, Shallow Lake; Daniel, Owen Sound; and Roy of Shallow Lake and one daughter, Mrs. Harris of Calgary. The funeral was held Friday afternoon. A service in the United Church, Rev. W.H. Bartlett in charge. Her remains will be interred in Boyd's cemetery.
