Notes |
- The late Mrs. Weidenhammer, whose funeral took place last Saturday, was born in Neuhansen, Wurtemberg, Germany, in 1825. She came to Waterloo in 1846 and was married the same year to Christopher Weidenhammer, who died in 1896. In 1868 they moved to Heidelberg, where they lived on a farm for a number of years, after which Mr. Weidenhammer bought the Girling farm east of Elmira, where deceased passed the rest of her days. There were born to them 13 sons and 4 daughters of whom 2 sons and one daughter died young and three sons in mature age. Deceased and her husband were a typical German couple, industrious, economical, thoroughly honest, and kind and helpful neighbors. They were consistent members of St. James Lutheran church where they were regular attendants as long as their health permitted. Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Chas. O. Stroh on the old homestead, Mrs. H. Schierholtz at Lamlash and Mrs. Philip Lorch in Iowa. Of the surviving 8 sons, Jacob lives in Waterloo, Fred at Hawkesville, William at Exeter, and Andrew, George, Conrad and Christopher in the Northwest. 80 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive.
