- Son of Elmira Dies in Oakville
Was Member of Local Family Who Took High Place in Country
A distinguished son of Elmira passed away in Oakville on April first in the person of Mr. William B. Weidenhammer, known in later years as Mr. Wyndham, he having found it necessary to change his name during the war, owing to his position as principal of Oakville High School. Death was sudden, pleuro-pneumonia, following a successful operation for cancer of the stomach. The late Mr. Wyndham was born near Elmira, and was one of a large family that grew up on the farm there. After University graduation he took up the teaching profession. He was a teacher at the K & W Collegiate from September 1901 until June 1902 when he moved to Wardsville and from there to Oakville to assume the principal ship of the collegiate there, a position he held up to the time of his death.
He was a specialist in modern languages, upon which he was a considerable authority. He was fifty-two years of age. The late Dr. Weidenhammer was a twin brother. Though the immediate relatives of the late Mr. Wyndham are scattered, they are still well remembered here, and there are a number of kindred in the district. A sister, Mrs. Schierhottz lives in Kitchener, and there are two brothers Jacob Weidenhammer of Waterloo, and Andrew Willows of Winnipeg. His widow, four sons and one daughter are also left.
