Notes |
- The many friends of James Howlett, of Winterbourne, a gentleman well and favorably known not only in Elmira where he was born and reared but also throughout the township of Woolwich and the County of Waterloo, in the respective councils he had served as a member for a number of years, will regret to hear of his demise. He died at his residence last Wednesday of heart disease after having suffered there from occasionally for several years. As a public man deceased was highly respected and his honorable precepts were appreciated. As a citizen he enjoyed the respect of the community. He was a successful farmer and stock breeder and had acquired a fine homestead. He was the second son of the late Wm. Howlett and was raised on the farm now occupied by Mr. Aaron A. Weber, one mile east of Elmira. He had reached the age of 59 years and 2 months and leaves a widow two sons and one daughter to mourn the loss of a kind husband and provident father. The funeral which was largely attended took place last Saturday afternoon when his remains were interred in the Elmira Cemetery.

ELMIRA
The "Grim Reaper" again visited our neighborhood on Wednesday, July 24, claiming for its victim the late Jas Howlett who for some time has been suffering from heart trouble. Mr. Howlett was widely and favorable known, being a man of sterling qualities and practiced veterinary for a number of years. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from his late residence to the Congregational Church and thence to the Elmira cemetery for interment. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow, two daugters and one son. Wesley, Salome at home and Clara (Mrs. R. Hamilton) of Essex, Ont. The services conducted by Revs. Hamilton were and Krauth of Winterbourne and Berlin and were largely attended. Both families have the deepest sympathies of the community in their bereavement.
