LATE MRS. PHILLIP LEIN CAME TO ELMIRA IN 1889-DEATH ON TUESDAY
The death of Mrs. Phillip Lein in the early hours of Tuesday morning closed the life of one who had been closely in touch with the development of Elmira from those pioneer days of 1869 when as Sarah Howlett, a girl seven years old. Mrs. Lein first moved with her parents to the Howlett homestead east of this town from the vicinity of Breslau where she was born.
The late Mrs. Lein had not for some time been in good health, but she had only been seriously ill for the last three weeks. She was sixty years of age, her whole life practically having been passed in and mear Elmira.
In 1886 she was married to Mr. Philip Lein, the ceremony being performed in Kitchener, and the trip there from Elmira was in those days. considered in the light of a considarable event. After her marriage, she lived on the Lein farm, adjoining her father's homestead, for ten years, and then the family moved to Elmira where she has resided for the last twenty-seven years. Of a quiet and retiring disposition,
the late Mrs. Lein is mourned as a realy kind, and neighborly woman. the high respect in which she was held being testified to by the floral. tribute received since her death. She was a devoted member of Gale Presbyterian Church. and every good work had her support and aid.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the house.to the Elmira Union Cemetery, the services being taken by Rev. Mr. Lynn. of. Kitchener. Six nephews acted pall-bearers as follows: Messrs. Wesley Howlett, Will Auman, Milton Auman, Orrie Hollinger, Norman Hollinger, and Walter Hollinger.
Besides her husband, the late Mrs. Lein leaves the following family: Messrs. Harvey. Lloyd, Clarence and Carlyle, all of Toronto, and the Misses Lottie and Bessie, both at home.
