Notes |
- Arlene Taylor, (nee Smith) - Arlene Taylor passed away, peacefully, on December 22, 2004, in her 93rd year, surrounded by her six children and many of her grandchildren.
Arlene was a long time resident of Elmira where she and her husband Raymond came to live following the Second World War. Their small farm and apple orchard were well known to many. When Raymond died unexpectedly in 1961, she returned to teaching, becoming the principal of Guiding Light School. Throughout her active life, she was well known for the gallons of tea she consumed, the hours of bridge she played, her love of gardening, the spontaneous visits to friends, and her loyalty and service to her family, church and community.
Arlene's extensive family includes Jim and Lynette Taylor of Allen Park and children Julia, Arlen, Raymond (RJ) and Jamie (deceased). Anne and Tony Arrell of Toronto and children. Laura (Eric) Arrell-Joyal, Cameron. (deceased 1992), Ashleigh, and Nicole, Tom Taylor of Elmira and children. Tracey (Greg) Riddell, Laurie (John) Cossey, and Terri (Ron) Taylor, Kathryn and Ken Seiling of Elmira and children Heather, Scott (Michelle), Amy, Mark and Megan, Mary Ruth and Vernon Job of Holstein and children Jennifer (Jeff) McDougall, Treva, Kerri and Isaac, and Nancy and Gary Mifflin of Waterloo and daughter Allison. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Melissa, and Andrew Cossey and Spencer Seiling.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Anne Jane Smith, and her sisters, Mildred Earl and Leta King.
Heartfelt thanks go to Alfie Anco who was a very special friend to Arlene during the last few months.
Visitation will be at Dreisinger's Funeral Home, in Elmira on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration. of her life will be held at Trinity United Church, 21 Arthur Street North in Elmira on Friday December 24 at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Elmira Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Association, to Trinity United Church in Elmira, or to a charity of your choice.
Grandma Taylor always loved having her family and friends visit, especially at Christmas. She has suc- ceeded in having her family and friends gather with her one last time to celebrate Christmas 2004.
