Notes |
- Hespeler - A most melancholy suicide occurred near here early on Thursday morning. The victim is a young, man, named Samuel Bechtel, aged about twenty-seven. The deed was a most determined one, as he not only cut his throat entirely across, but also inflicted several horrible gashes on his forehead with an axe. When found a few minutes after committing the act he could no longer speak, and soon after breathed his last. On Wednesday morning he was caught in an attempt at hanging. After that he was closely watched, but managed to escape notice long enough to do away with himself.
