  	Haas-Pemberton House
  	The Haas - Pemberton House at 45 Young Street was saved from demolition in 1973 when it was purchased from Dominion Life Assurance by the parents of the present owners. Dominion Life Assurance had been assembling houses in the area to build several large apartment buildings, similar to the building directly behind 45 Young Street (see Waterloo Chronicle October 3, 1973). The first owner of the house in 1904 was Herman Haas, who lived in the house until 1955. His wife Estella Ludwig Haas continued to live there until 1970 when it was sold to Dominion Life. The Pemberton's bought the house in 1973, altering the house by extending the third floor gable and increasing the size of the third floor. They also renovated the kitchen and bathrooms. No other renovations have been made and the house retains its original porches, gingerbread, and stained glass arched windows. The house was built in the Queen Anne style from clay bricks likely made at the brickyard at University Avenue at the tracks.
