- Harry R. Ranks
Native of Ayr and Well-Known Resident of Toronto Passes
Friends and acquaintances in Ayr and Toronto will regret to learn of the death on Sunday at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, of Harry R. Ranks, in his 64th year. Deceased had been ill for only a short time, but his death was not unexpected. He was born in Ayr in 1869, but for over thirty years he conducted an undertaking business on Queen Street West, Toronto. He was an ardent curler and, whenever the Toronto-Ayr Old Boys visited the old home town for a friendly game, he was always one of those taking part. He was a member of the Queen City Curling Club and also a member of the curling team that took part and won the championship at the Winnipeg Bonspiel in 1919. Deceased was also quite a vocalist in his younger days. He was a member of the Rehoboam Lodge, A.F. and A.M.; of the Orange Lodge, the I. O. F., and other societies; an active member of St. George's Anglican Church, John Street, Toronto, and of the Anglican Laymen's Association. He is survived by his widow, Henrietta Douglas Ranks, and one brother, John Ranks of Detroit. Surviving also are a brother-in-law, John Fraser of Ayr; a niece, Mrs. Merle Stork of Ayr, and a nephew, Guy Fraser, Toronto. The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon from his late undertaking parlors on Queen Street West, Toronto, with interment in the Necropolis Cemetery.
