Notes |
- John Myers John Myers, was born in Canada, July 8, 1841, when he was one year old his parents moved to Ohio. At the age of 12 years, he came with his parents to Illinois, in Leaf River township, where he lived the balance of his life.
In 1863 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Maggie Keefer and to this union there were born three children, two sons Ward and Wade, and one daughter, May. His wife and son Wade t and daughter May preceded him in death.
The deceased was widely known in Ogle County as in his early manhood the followed the threshing of grain for the farmers and was for many years welcomed by many farmers. In the early 80's he moved to Leaf River where he opened up a stone quarry and furnished much of the stone to build up our village. Until just a few years ago, he was active in the building of roads and remained in the livery business, in caring for horses driven to his barn. On Sunday night March 1st. he was taken sick and during the week he lay almost unconsious until the end, which came on Friday morning of March 6th. when he passed to his rest. being 83 years 5 months and 19 days old.
His funeral was held in the Christian church Sunday March 8th, the Rev. R. W. Pittman officiating, and using as his text "What is your life. or my life?"
His discourse was listened to very attentively. Mrs. Guy Mayer and Mrs. Roy Stukenberg sang several beautiful selections and Mrs. Edward Peterson played the piano.
His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Lightsville beside his wife by J. B. Marks, Oliver Green. Elmer Wolf, Frank E. Fairlamb, C. G. Pyper and F. W. Robinson, pall bearers. The deceased had many friends as. was demonstrated by the large concourse of friends who gathered to pay their last respect to him, who they had known for so many years. The deceased leaves to mourn his departure his son Ward, his sister Sarah Wagner and three brothers Joseph, Samuel and Amos Myers.
